In memory of the captain, John Childs

This site is a tribute to John Childs. He was the best of them, our Dad, husband and Grandad. The Captain, excellent cook, baker and chocolate maker, an avid reader, a keen golfer and, at times, a grumpy old bugger!

He passed away peacefully on the 1st of January at home with his family, exactly as he wished. He had a long, happy life and always said if he had his time again he wouldn’t change a thing.

Other than his family, his greatest love was the sea. He was in the Royal Navy for 22 years before becoming a yacht captain based mainly in the Mediterranean. Both of these jobs took him all over the world, allowing him to combine a passion for sailing and the sea with a love of technology.

After he retired, whilst living in Ickham, someone came to the door collecting on behalf of the RNLI. A charity very close to his heart, he also started collecting for them.

In lieu of flowers we felt donations to the RNLI would be a most fitting tribute to our favourite salty old sea dog.

Please give whatever you can afford to support this worthy cause and feel free to add any photos or memories of him to this page to celebrate and remember him.
